THE ELDERLY ARE YOUTH, NOT ELDERS
The difference between elder and the elderly is crystal clear. Elder is a name from heaven sharing the same office with Pastor, Prophet, Leader possessing experience and skills, gone through the thick and thin of life, retired but not tired etc. E.g Nelson Mandela took office at the age of seventy-five. Elder is a call, crticism whether to take office at that level is a very blunt one and insensitive to divine arrangement.
However the elderly is a youth. He is physically fit to do fourth (40) - push - ups. He is somebody about to be called into the age of the elder. Such youth is young at heart - that is he or she posses the youthful vibes, focus, genuineness and resilience to put history in proper perspective than to fold hands until disease, poverty, hunger or death or something worse begins to happen to his society and forlorn generation. This two should not be misconstrued in politics at all.
All we want politicians to understand is everybody possess different abilities at different stages of life, and that they are therefore called on to play different roles at different times. In the case of the young at heart leaders or elderly, their greatest asset is not the wisdom that comes with age, but the composure that comes with experience. Their steadiness makes them especially the likes of Aliyu Hawa and Jacob Edime valuable in times of crisis, when less experienced leaders may lose their heads to keep the masses in safety and warmth at the home front democracy.
