Igalamela/Odolu: Umar Zekito Stewardship Former Council Boss, Reflects on Achievements and ‘enormous’ amount of work Still to be Done



Eight years on,  among his contemporary as Chairman, Umar Zekito’s account of stewardship and positive impact made in the lives of people is unmatchable.
The energetic and focused Council Boss Alh. Comrade Zakito Umar in his quest and honesty to transform his Local Government (Igalamela/odolu LGA) in Partnership with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) initiated and completed a number of projects capable of addressing the primary needs of the people at the grassroot. 

The MDGs which was  introduced by the administration of Capt. Idris Wada and keyed into by the administration of Comrade Zakito Umar whereas a counterpart fund in 2012 of over forty million naira (N40,000,000) was paid by the administration of Comrade Zakito Umar.
This partnership attracted over two hundred million naira (N 200,000,000) worth of projects that are evenly distributed all over the Local Government. 

Some of the projects include the following:
-Building of primary health post, Amaka
-Building of primary health post, Agbokete.
-Major repair of primary health care clinic, Eke Avurugo
-Major repair of primary health care clinic, Achokpa
-Provision Hand pump bore-hole, Eke Avurugo PHC
As well as Official automobile for to facilitate mobility in the various sectors of the Local government


-Purchase and supply of Peugeot partner combi Ambulance, 1.40 litre engine, manual transmission air conditioned, completely equipped with stretcher bar, siren, and all other accessories for Odolu.
-Building of primary health post, Ofodo
Provision of motorized bore-hole, Ugbedomagwu.
-Purchase and supply of Drugs& basic equipments for selected health facilities.
Building of primary health post, Otobo-Adokpulu.
-Building of primary health post, Makoja
-Building of primary health post, Ogbogba.
-Building of primary health post, Ogboligbo.
-Building of primary health care centre Idah road, Ajaka.
- Construction of Okpakpata - Ajo / Rural road rehabilitation too numerous to mention
-Purchase of five motor bikes, Achopka, Ugbedomagwu, Eke-Avurugo, Ibochi and Alakwa.
-Purchase and supply of Peugeot partner combi Ambulance, 1.40 litre engine, manual transmission air condition, completely equipped with stretcher bar siren and all other accessories for Ajaka.
-Advocacy and sensitization programmes for different sectors in the LGA

-Training of over two hundred SBA, one hundred CHEWS both Junior/senior
-Construction of VIP toilet at Ajaka PHC, Construction of VIP toilet, Achokpa PHC.
-Construction of VIP toilet at PHC Akpanya.

Biography
Alh. Zakito Umar was born into the family of the famous Alh.,Umoru Kwoche by an elegant woman, full of brightness, positivity and intelligence. Mrs Asmawo Umoru, popularly known as Missi Acho, a class teacher in the famous RCMT primary school Ajaka, the headquarters of Igalamela/Odolu Local Government area. Hon Zakito resided in Ajaka for the most part of his life.

Early Childhood and Education

Hon., Zekito had his primary and secondary education at the Roman Catholic Mission (RCM) Primary School, Ajaka and Government Technical College Idah respectively. He obtained Diploma in Community Health Technology from the then School of Health Technology Idah in 1996. 

Zekito went further to the College of Health Technology Zawan, in Plateau State and obtained a Higher National Diploma in Community Health Technology in 2003. He first worked as Health Attendant at Idah LGA in 1991 and as Officer in charge of Primary Health Care Clinic Ofanwa in Igalameal/Odolu LGA between 1996 and 1997.

Subsequently, Hon., Zekito was appointed Assistant Officer in Charge of Comprehensive Health Centre Ajaka, a position he held from 1997 to 1998. 

As a matter of fact, He gave no fewer than eleven productive years of his life to the service of Igalamela/Odolu Local Government before he developed interest in the leadership of the Local Government Branch of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria. 
He held a position from 2004-2012. On 7th June, 2013 He was appointed Liaison Officer I of Igalamela/Odolu Local Government by His Excellency, Capt. Idris Ichalla WADA and subsequently elected Chairman of Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area.
