Expansion Of Igala Kingdom: I Spent 30 Years To Assemble Documents Used In Court - Dr Ahmadu Ali

The former National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Ahmadu Ali, has disclosed the role he played in the recent judgment delivered by Lokoja Federal High Court in favour of Igala Kingdom about the real owners of Ajaokuta, Lokoja and Koton Karfe.


The former National Chairman of PDP who is currently a traditional title holder, Ochada Attah Igala, disclosed in an interview that he spent 30 years to gather the documents tendered in Lokoja Federal High Court as evidence upon which the judgment was delivered in favour of Igala Kingdom.


 Ahmadu Ali dispelled the contrary opinions that the affected areas are not part of Igala Kingdom, saying Attah Igala exercised jurisdiction over Ajaokuta, Lokoja, Koton Karfe down to the present day Southern Kaduna.


According to him, Igala Kingdom was so powerful at the time, explaining that the kingdom was balkanised at a later time which he said paved way for settlers. 


He revealed that the visiting Europeans sought the consent of Attah Igala to abode into what is now known as Niger area that gave rise to agreement which he said the Europeans couldn't fulfill.

He further revealed that the Kingdom was so powerful that Attah Igala was controlling up to Southern Kaduna during the Quororofo era now corrupt as Quararafa.

He added that the balkanization that led to the ceding of many lands to several settlers was inevitable at the time, explaining that the intention was to usher in development and grant people some measure of autonomy and give people peace and freedom. 

Ahmadu Ali explained that all the villages at both side of the River Niger down to Onitsha and Baro were initially established by the people of Igala.

He further disclosed that what is now known as modern day Koton Karfe was a corrupt lingual pronouncement of Akpoto Karfi by the Uthman Danfodio soldiers after they were defeated by the Warriors of Attah when they attempted to overrun the Kingdom of Attah.

He added that the ownership of Ajaokuta, Lokoja and Koton Karfe are not in doubt of this claim as the facts and documents are available to prove it.

He, however, noted that this will not make anybody to lose his political or economic right but to put the record straight, adding that there is no need for the people of Ajaokuta, Lokoja and Koton Karfe to fear as they are all brothers and will continue to live in peace in Kogi State.
