Legislative Advocacy : JDPC Laments Kogi Lawmakers are too far from the people, no constituency briefing and active offices



Justice Development and Peace Commission JDPC, Catholic Diocese of Lokoja urges law makers in kogi state to open active constituency offices in their constituencies so as to serve the people better.

JDPC Lokoja made this call in Lokoja on Wednesday 12 May, 2021 while responding to questions in her live radio Advocacy Programmes tagged Legislative Advocacy,

The coordinator of JDPC lokoja, Rev Fr Augustine Okafor who was one of the guests on the program on grace 95.5FM Lokoja commended the smooth relationship between the executive and the legislative arm of government in kogi state. He however stated that there was the need for adequate checks and balances in order to promote good governance in the state.

 He calls on the law makers to periodically carry out overnight functions to ensure that due processes are complied with in the business of governance in kogi state.

In his remarks, the project officer of JDPC lokoja, Success Adejoh Sunday commended the law makers for ensuring public hearing on bills especially appropriation bills in kogi state. 

He however lamented that lack of oversight functions, lack of constituency briefings by law makers and lack of functional constituency offices remain critical challenges with the law makers in kogi state.

In their separate reactions, callers on the program from KSU, LOKOJA and Anyigba community lamented thst the law makers are too far from the people as they are no functional constituency offices to give the people opportunity to connect with their elected representatives.

JDPC Lokoja is implementing an advocacy project tagged Legislative Advocacy and Inclusive Governance for Improved Water Sanitation and Hygiene in kogi state.
