Ankpa L.G: 2 Dies at Ika- Ogboyaga Cite, Kogi Banned Illegal Mining Across The State

The Kogi State government has prohibited illegal mining in the entire state.
The order was issued in response to the death of two people at an illegal mining site in Ika-Ogboyaga, Ankpa Local Government Area, when a portion of a mining bed caved in.

The two victims, identified as Attah and Amodu, were killed on Saturday.

Bashiru Tegu, the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, has directed that all operators register with the ministry.

Failure to comply with the directive, according to the statement, would result in the State government cracking down on mining operators and sites.

Meanwhile, the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has begun an investigation to determine who owns the collapsed site.

Nkom Samson Katung, the command’s head of solid minerals, explained that divisional officers had been directed to work with the community’s traditional ruler to put an end to illegal activities in the area.
